Australia’s new centre to emphasise inflammatory disease care

The centre will enable detailed analysis of blood tests and biopsies for personalised treatment.

The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) has collaborated with the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI) and the Colonial Foundation to establish the new Colonial Foundation Diagnostics Centre dedicated to chronic inflammatory diseases.

According to RMH, around one in three Australians have a chronic inflammatory disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, and lupus.

RMH Chief Executive Shelley Dolan said the Colonial Foundation Diagnostics Centre will enable detailed analysis of blood tests and biopsies for more personalised care.

It will also integrate research, clinical care, and advanced technologies to enable more accurate and timely diagnoses and treatment options.

“This work will help aid in disease discovery, diagnosis and the translation of results into the best treatments for patients with inflammatory and other diseases,” Dolan said.
