Bangkok Dusit Medical Services net profit to decline 22.2% QoQ in Q2

The drop is mainly attributed to seasonality.

Bangkok Dusit Medical Services (BDMS) is anticipated to report a net profit of $89m (Bt3.2b) in the second quarter (Q2) of the year.

This reflects a quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) decline of 22.2% amidst a projected year-on-year (YoY) increase of 3.4%.

According to UOB Kay Hian (UOBKH), the drop is attributed to seasonality driving higher costs amidst long holidays.

Moreover, operations are expected to normalise in Q2 compared to the previous year’s corresponding quarter, during which an outbreak occurred.

“In 2Q23, there was an outbreak of 6,400 cases of norovirus in Phuket which raised BDMS’ top-line to a high base,” UOBKH said.

Furthermore, an additional YoY impact from depreciation and interest expense from the newly launched Bangkok Pluak Daeng and Phyathai Sriracha 2 hospitals is expected to be realised in the quarter.

"Therefore, the QoQ drop of net profit in Q2 should be larger than last year," UOBKH added.
