Tokyo tops hospital city rankings

It got stellar scores for access and quality of care.

Tokyo is the best city in the world for healthcare, according to a study by UK-based medical startup Medbelle.

Medbelle ranked cities across the planet according to their scores in three categories: Quality of Care, Infrastructures, and Access.

The Japanese capital obtained the highest overall score of 100 and got the highest overall Quality of Care score. It also placed highest in the Top-Ranking Hospitals criterion, and received a very high Access score.

The study noted Tokyo’s healthcare access and spending, as well as medical universities and number of hospital beds for capita.

Adverse events and treatment efficiency were also high, scoring 99.78 and 100 respectively. Patient satisfaction was satisfactory at 68.82.

On the downside, cost of medicine was scored a measly 2.06, and surgeons per capita was scored at 7.07. Nurses and mental health specialists per capita were also low, scoring at 27.27 and 38.14 respectively.

Boston was the second highest hospital city at 99.64, whilst Seoul also made it to the top 10 with an overall rating of 98.55.
