Saigon Eye Hospital wins two titles at Healthcare Asia Awards 2024

The hospital exemplifies innovation, effectiveness, and community engagement in promoting eye health.

Saigon Eye Hospital (SGE) garnered the Specialty Hospital of the Year - Vietnam and the Health Promotion Initiative of the Year - Vietnam category wins at the recently held Healthcare Asia Awards 2024 for its outstanding performance in the past year, and its “Open Eyes” Exhibition Series.

Founded in 2004, SGE is Vietnam’s largest ophthalmology hospital chain with a presence in 12 provinces. Comprising 12 hospitals and three clinics, it houses over 600 skilled doctors and modern equipment from the US and Europe.

In the past year, it has expanded with three new hospitals and two clinics, resulting in a 118% revenue increase. Outpatient volume and surgical volume has also increased by 125% and 105%, respectively, continuing a five-year growth trend. Patients have also consistently rated their satisfaction at over 78%

Moreover, the hospital continues to invest in staff training, offering over 158 courses to over a thousand personnel. Its Medical and Technology Conference hosts more than 300 delegates, emphasising knowledge sharing. SGE also leads in technological advancements, introducing the SCHWIND PresbyMAX® and ZEISS SMILE® Pro technologies in Vietnam. In 2023, they automated and synchronised operational areas, enhancing efficiency and patient experience.

In giving back to the community, SGE offers educational programmes and free eye care to underserved communities. This includes the launching of the “Open Eyes” art exhibition series, with the key message aiming to enlighten the public about the wonders of human eyes, the impact of modern lifestyles on eye health, and the critical need for eye care.

"Open Eyes" gathered remarkable attention from the public, with an astonishing attendance of 15,000 people. The impact extended beyond the exhibition halls, generating over two million social media discussions and extensive media coverage.

For the first exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City, SGE collaborated with three renowned contemporary artists. Their innovative approach involved using over 27,655 used spectacle lenses, collected from patients who underwent successful eye surgeries at SGEH. These lenses, combined with ceramics and Plexiglas, were transformed into 12 unique artworks.

For the second exhibition in Danang City, SGE partnered with Danang Architecture University to organise a digital painting contest, garnering over 78 entries. The top 20 entries from students were exhibited, showcasing the artistic expressions of eye health from a younger perspective.

The hospital’s impressive achievements, patient-focused care, technological innovations, community outreach, and numerous accolades earned them the Specialty Hospital of the Year - Vietnam, with the “Open Eyes” exhibit winning the Health Promotion Initiative of the Year - Vietnam as well.

“[Our] unwavering commitment to eye health has transformed countless lives and set a standard of excellence in ophthalmology,” SGE said.
