Australia’s critical care and trauma response centre secures $36m funding for future health crises

The three-year funding will commence in July.

The National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre (NCCTRC) in Darwin, Australia will receive funding of approximately $36m (AU$55m) from the Albanese Labour Government to support its operations for future health crises.

The three-year funding, commencing in July, will allow NCCTRC to maintain staff, equipment and resources needed to prepare against a sudden onset health emergency.

In a statement, the centre served as a key component of the Albanese Government’s response to disasters and emergencies.

“I am delighted that the Australian Government has chosen to continue to support the NCCTRC by providing funding to us to continue our important work in health emergency response for the next 3 years,”  Len Notaras, Executive Director of the NCCTRC, said.

“Over the last 19 years, the NCCTRC and the Australian Government have built a strong partnership which has made Australia a global leader in health emergency response,” Notaras added.
