APAC coronavirus test kits market to grow by $2.87b by 2028

This is driven by the rising availability of various types of test kits and advancements in technology.

The coronavirus test kits market in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region is projected to grow by $2.87b from 2024 to 2028, with a compound annual growth rate of over 72.2%, according to a report by Technavio.

This surge is driven by the rising availability of various types of test kits and advancements in technology, aimed at producing faster and more accurate testing solutions. However, the market faces challenges related to shortages of test kits and insufficient laboratory infrastructure in developing countries.

Despite that, the region saw notable progress in coronavirus test kit technology, particularly in the production of swift and precise test kits. These kits, which identify coronavirus proteins through nasal or throat swabs, provide results within minutes, compared to traditional polymerase chain reaction tests that require lab processing, Technavio noted.

Further advancements include the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning algorithms to interpret test results. These technologies can analyse data and generate precise results in seconds, minimising human error.

For example, AI algorithms can be used to analyse chest x-rays and detect signs of pneumonia associated with coronavirus infections, allowing for earlier detection and intervention.

The rise of portable and user-friendly test kits has also significantly expanded testing capacity. These allow individuals to self-test and monitor their health at home or in remote locations, improving overall testing accuracy and accessibility. Some of these portable kits can be linked to smartphones, enabling users to share results with healthcare providers seamlessly.

These advantages have expanded testing accessibility and reliability in the APAC, paving the way for early detection and prompt intervention, thus likely fuelling the coronavirus test kits market expansion in the region during the forecast period.
